Inspired by the live oaks I saw during my time in Texas, this piece explores the tree as a symbol of age, resilience, and place. I was drawn to the way live oaks grow in irregular, twisting forms, with branches that bend, split, and reach outward rather than following a clean or predictable structure.
The drawing reflects the character of the Texas landscape: expansive, weathered, and shaped by heat and time. The tree feels rooted and enduring, but also restless and alive. Through the dark charcoal lines and branching forms, I wanted to capture both the strength of the live oak and the sense of movement held within it.
